Through dance, dialogue and music of the period, Freedom Train tells an enduring story of self-sacrifice, survival and celebration of the human spirit – a universal story for all. Tickets are $6. Cyrus Chestnut Trio:
By now, it’s universally recognized that the greatest material of the “King” – Elvis Presley – really consisted of sanitized versions of popular rhythm-and-blues hits of the day. Premiere jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut seeks to reclaim those hits with his concert, ‘Jazzin’ Elvis.’ Come and hear Chestnut and his trio at the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW 5th Ave. in Fort Lauderdale, as they offer a fresh jazzy outlook on a variety of jazz standards and some of the most popular Elvis tunes. The show starts at 7:45 p.m. Tickets are $35 and $40. For more information, please call 954-462-0222 or log onto browardcenter.org.

Saturday, January 16
Groovealoo:
OK, the name Groovealoo for a concert doesn’t sound like the coolest, cutting-edge, and entertaining hip-hop performance around, but the actual dancers, all winners from NBC’s “Superstars of Dance” competition, more than deliver. Part A Chorus Line, part Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk, Groovaloo chronicles the true stories of its cast members’ struggles, hopes and triumphs through amazing dance numbers and powerful spoken word poetry. Ticket prices range from $29 to $49. The show starts at 8 p.m. at the Parker Playhouse, 707 NE 8th Street in Fort Lauderdale. For more information, please call 954-462-0222.
